TIME OF ALARM: 7:53 AM, Sunday, March 11, 2007

OCFA INCIDENT#: 07061557

INCIDENT NAME: 241 Fire at Windy Ridge

LOCATION: The fire began at the Windy Ridge toll plaza on the 241 toll road.  The fire moved quickly west toward Canyon Rim Road and Serrano Road in Anaheim Hills and Orange, driven by strong winds.

CONDITIONS ON ARRIVAL: Vegetation fire associated with a car fire on the Southbound 241 toll road.

COMMAND: Unified command - Orange County Fire Authority, Anaheim City Fire, and Orange City Fire

FIREFIGHTING ASSETS DURING PEAK FIREFIGHTING OPERATIONS:

ACRES BURNED: 2,036 acres.

STRUCTURES BURNED: Three structures received fire damage - two out-structures were destroyed and one home received moderate roof damage.

REPORTED INJURIES: Two firefighters received minor injuries and one received moderate injuries.  No civilian injuries were reported.

ROAD CLOSURES: For road closure information, check with CalTRANS or the City of Orange.

EVACUATIONS:

Peak: 1,200 homes evacuated in Anaheim Hills and Orange
Current: All evacuations were lifted per the Orange Police and Anaheim Police on March 12, 2007.

PRELIMINARY CAUSE OF FIRE: Incendiary to a vehicle around the Windy Ridge toll plaza and the vehicle was stolen.  Anyone with information should call their local police department, fire department, or the OCFA arson tip line at (800) 540-8282. 

CURRENT CONDITION: This incident is now closed.  The fire was fully contained by 12:00 noon on March 13, 2007 and fully controlled on March 14, 2007 at 6:00 PM.  Full control means that there is no longer a threat of the fire jumping over the containment lines.

REPAIR EFFORTS: OCFA and CDF crews completed fire suppression repair efforts toward the end of the week of March 11, 2007 to help prevent erosion in areas where firefighters had removed vegetation while fighting the fire. Fire suppression repair was supervised by OCFA's Wildland Fire Defense Planner in coordination with The Nature Conservancy. These repairs included the installation of water diversion bars and the restoration of some environmental habitats and natural aesthetics of the area, wherever possible.

ENVIRONMENTAL REHABILITATION: Landowners within the fire area include The Irvine Company, Santiago Oaks Regional Park, Irvine Regional Park, Weir Canyon Regional Park, Southern California Edison, The Transportation Corridor Agency, various Homeowner’s Associations and private landowners. At this point, each landowner will assume responsibility for any additional environmental rehabilitation upon their own lands.
