INCIDENT NAME: Gypsum Fire
LOCATION: The fire began
around Coal Canyon Road at the 91 Freeway moving west, driven by easterly
winds.
CONDITIONS ON ARRIVAL: Vegetation fire
CONTAINMENT: 100% contained as of 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 9.
CONTROL: 100% conrol as of 6:00 PM Thursday, May 10.
CAUSE: Accidental. The fire was caused by a CalTrans Road Crew
installing metal fencing along the 91 Freeway at Coal Canyon Road. The
crews were using a power cutting tool that produced sparks, which ignited the
nearby grass. CalTrans crews took every possible measure to try and stop
the fire before it spread. However, because of strong winds and dry
vegetation, they were unable to stop the fire from spreading.

ROAD CLOSURES: Check with Cal Trans for
91 freeway and 241 toll road closures. There have been local road
closures - check with Brea Police Department for current status.
