TIME OF ALARM: 9:01 AM November 15, 2008

INCIDENT#: ORC 08075221

INCIDENT NAME: Freeway Complex Fire

LOCATION: Began in Riverside County 91 Fwy at Green River heading into Orange County (Thomas Brothers page 741).  Fire jumped the 91 freeway east of Weir Canyon.  Map of Freeway Complex Fire

CONTAINMENT: 100%

CONTROL: Control was declared November 25, 2008 at 8:00 AM

PRELIMINARY CAUSE: CAL FIRE investigators are continuing the investigation into the Freeway Fire. It is possible the fire was caused by a vehicle's exhaust equipment; however, investigators are still evaluating evidence and witness statements. WEATHER CONDITIONS: For information check with National Weather Service - Southern California or California Weather

COMMAND: Unified Command with Orange County Fire Authority, CAL FIRE, LA County Fire, Anaheim Fire, and Chino Fire

FIREFIGHTING ASSETS:

  • An estimated 3,760 state, county, and city personnel at the height of the fire
  • 78 Crews, 510 Engines, 22 Bulldozers, 10 Water Tenders, 211 Overhead,  3 Helicopters at the height of the fire

ACRES BURNED: Appropximately 30,305 acres

STRUCTURES DAMAGED/DESTROYED:
  • 190 residential structures destroyed (includes multi-family residences)
  • 123 residential structures damaged
  • 2 commercial properties damaged or destroyed

CITY INFORMATION:

REPORTED INJURIES: 14 minor injuries of firefighters

EVACUATIONS:
  • Orange County Red Cross
  • Please take donations to the Local Assistance Center at 8165 E. Santa Ana Canyon Rd., Anaheim
EVACUATION CENTERS:
  • Animals can be taken to the OC Shelter (561 The City Dr., Orange) and large animals can be taken to Huntington Beach Equestrian Center (18381 Golden West St.)
ROAD CLOSURES: Check with Cal Trans for freeway and toll road closures.   Check with the local police department for city street closures.
  • Carbon Canyon Rd. closed to eastbound traffic from Valencia Rd. - CLOSED
