Vegetation Management
Vegetation Management is the controlling of plant materials to prevent wildfire spread. Following Vegetation Management guidelines will help protect your home from the damage that occurs when wind driven embers come into contact with vegetation.
Defensible Space
Defensible Space is an area between a house and an oncoming wildfire where the vegetation has been controlled, trimmed, or removed to reduce wildfire threat. In many cases, Defensible Space is simply a 360˚ approach, 100 ft from a structure or a property line.
Plant Separation
Dead & Dying Plants
All plants can burn, but the low moisture content in vegetation that’s dead or dying makes it extremely dangerous during a wildfire, increasing the risk for your home and your family.
Flammable Plant List
Some plants catch fire and burn more easily than others. The likelihood that your home will survive a wildfire may depend on the vegetation that surrounds it. OCFA recommends the removal of these undesirable plants.
