The purpose of OCFA's Wildland Task Force is to educate the public about the value of creating and maintaining a defensible space around their homes. This section was formed as a result of our record low rainfall received in Southern California and subsequent extremely hazardous fire season. Although a temporary section, the focus of the Wildland Task Force is to create a permanent ongoing plan to educate the public living in the urban/wildland interface on ways that they can protect themselves from the threat of wildfires. The section has developed an informational brochure that details the steps property owners should take to create this defensible space around their property. You will also see banners posted at area fire stations that read "Got Clearance?" This phrase is one that we hope will become the defensible space motto throughout all of our wildland interface areas. Through this program, we hope to aid all citizens in preparing for a wildfire in their community.
