TIPS to Assist New Candidates Apply Online

This information is to familiarize individuals with the OCFA's application process. Should you have any questions about this information, please contact Human Resources Receptionist at (714) 573-6800 or the Firefighter Recruitment Help Desk at (714) 573-6814.

Quick Facts About Applying with the Authority:
  • You may only apply online. We do not accept paper applications. If you you would like to use our computer to submit an application, please stop by the Human Resources Division lobby located at 1 Fire Authority Road, Irvine CA 92602. You do not need an appointment to use this equipment.
  • You may only submit one online application during the "open and close" period of the recruitment. Although you may have prior knowledge that a recruitment is opening on a specific date in the future, you may not view the job bulletin or submit an application prior to the official "open" date of the recruitment. You may however, go to "Job Descriptions" to view all our job descriptions.
  • To create an application, you must first create an "Applicant Profile". Click the "Create Applicant Profile to Apply Online" located on the Human Resources Home Page, and follow the prompts. Candidates can create an "Applicant Profile" anytime, and do not have to wait until a recruitment opens to create a "Applicant Profile". We encourage anyone thinking of applying with us to go thru this process early, to reduce the possibility of error by waiting until the last minute and rushing.
  • Job Interest Cards are not linked to "Applicant Profiles". Job Interest Cards are only a notification system for candidates interested in being notified of specific employment opportunities. Information submitted on the Job Interest Card webpage does not roll forward into the "Applicant Profile" application. "Applicant Profiles" must be created separately.
  • Once an application is submitted, you cannot withdraw your application or make changes to your answers. All submissions are final regardless of the situation. If you have any questions regarding any section in the "Application Profile" or supplemental questionnaire, please save your work and contact us for assistance.
9 Steps to the Application Process:

  4. Login in using with your user name and password if you have already created a "Applicant Profile". If you do not have an "Applicant Profile" established, create one at this time.
  5. The system will prompt you to "name" your new application. This is intended to be an informal name for your use only. Typically, candidates will use name of the job title they are applying for such as Firefighter or Accountant.
  6. Review your "Applicant Profile" information to make sure the information you have provided is correct.
  7. Some recruitments have supplemental questionnaires which must be completed as part of the application process. Candidates who do not answer these questions will automatically be eliminated from the recruitment process.
  8. The system will prompt you to submit your application. Your application is "Applicant Profile" and the answers you selected on the supplemental questionnaire (if one is required).
  9. The system will generate a confirmation page once the application is submitted which you should save or print for your records.
TIPS for Success:
  • Prepare- Prior to starting your "Applicant Profile", gather your personal information including employment history, education, licenses and certificates, references and an electronic copy of your current resume. Your resume should match the information you are providing on your "Applicant Profile".
  • Give yourself at least an hour to work thru all the categories of the "Applicant Profile". Accuracy is very important and you could have issues later if the information you provide is not accurate.
  • The supplemental questionnaire is very important and we encourage you to take your time and answer each question accurately.
  • You may save your work in your "Applicant Profile" at any time by clicking "save". Please review your work prior to submitting your application. Once submitted, your application cannot be altered or modified in any way, even if the recruitment hasn''t closed yet.
  • Do not let anyone submit an application on your behalf - even if it's someone you know. When an application is submitted, you are verifiying that you are the person making the application, and dishonesty will eliminate you from the recruitment process.
