OCFA Medals


OCFA Medal of ValorMEDAL OF VALOR
The Medal of Valor is the highest fire service decoration awarded. It is only awarded to OCFA firefighters. The Medal of Valor shall be presented with a certificate of fine parchment paper with a short description of the valorous and courageous act. It may be presented at a ceremony by direction from the Chief of the Authority.

The criteria for the Medal of Valor is as follows:
"An act of valor performed by an Orange County Fire Authority firefighter which places them at extreme personal risk under adverse conditions while attempting to save the life of another on or off duty at an emergency incident."

Any firefighter of the Orange County Fire Authority who, in the course of their duties, is killed in the line of duty shall be posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor.

OCFA Medal of CourageMEDAL OF COURAGE
The Medal of Courage is the second-highest decoration awarded to any member of the Orange County Fire Authority. The Medal of Courage shall be presented with a certificate of fine parchment paper with a short description of the courageous act. It may be presented at a ceremony by direction from the Chief of the Authority.

The criteria for the Medal of Courage is as follows:
"An act of courage performed by an individual assuming great personal risk under dangerous conditions associated with unusual ability and personal initiative while attempting to save the life of another on or off duty."


OCFA Lifesaving MedalLIFESAVING MEDALThe Lifesaving Medal is the third-highest decoration awarded to any member of the Orange County Fire Authority. The Lifesaving Medal shall be presented with a certificate of fine parchment paper with a short description of the lifesaving act. It may be presented at a ceremony by direction from the Chief of the Authority.

The criteria for the Lifesaving Medal is as follows:
"The Lifesaving Medal shall be awarded for acts that display anticipation, ingenuity, and participation in unexpected and/or unusual situations in the saving of a life. Such event(s) shall not place the nominee at extreme personal risk."


OCFA Medal of MeritMEDAL OF MERIT
The Medal of Merit is the fourth-highest decoration awarded to any member of the Orange County Fire Authority. The Medal of Merit shall be presented with a Certificate of fine parchment paper with a short description of the act. It may be presented at a ceremony by direction from the Chief of the Authority.

The criteria for the Medal of Merit is as follows:
"For exemplary behavior, outstanding achievement, and meritorious service which brings to the Orange County Fire Authority significant recognition and status."
